Why "Mizu Shotokan Karate-Do" ?
"Mizu Shotokan Karate-Do" is a bit of a mouthful, but each part is important and was chosen carefully:
| Mizu | Mizu is the Japanese word for water. Water can be calm... but it can also be rough. Just like karate. | Shotokan | The style of karate we practice is Shotokan Karate. It is one of the oldest and most popular karate styles. |
| Karate | As you may know, the word karate derives from the Japanese words kara - 'empty' - and te - 'hand'. |
| Do | Do - pronounced like dough - means "way". Thus Karate-Do translates as 'Way of the Empty Hand'. The "Do" is important, as it emphasises that there is much more to karate than the technical aspects of fighting. |
