Mizu Shotokan Karate-Do has two Extra Training sessions every term. The main purpose of these sessions is to increase and improve your karate skills. Detailed analysis of techniques takes place in these sessions.
IN ORDER TO GRADE IT IS COMPULSORY TO COMPLETE AT LEAST ONE EXTRA TRAINING SESSION PER TERM.
For advanced karatekas (karate students), these sessions maintain your already acquired skills and keep you up to speed with new and improved applications to techniques.
Consistent movement up the ranks in karate cannot be achieved by training for only one hour per week! Even if you're not grading, I strongly advise that you consider attending: your karate will certainly benefit in the long run.
Extra Training sessions are pre-requisites for every Grading.
The pre-Grading session is very similar to the Grading itself - much like a mock exam. At the end of the session, you'll leave with a sheet of paper that details what you did well, and the areas that need improvement. You will also be told whether you should attempt a Grading, or whether you should wait another term.
It is recommended that new karatekas (students of karate) attempt a karate Grading at the end of their first term of training. They (and everyone else) need to attend the Pre-Grading first.
You must attend the Pre-Grading session in order to be able to grade.
You've trained regularly, attended the extra trainings, and made it through the Pre-Grading.
You've studied the pre-grading sheet and have worked on the areas the areas that needed improvement.
You're now ready to Grade!
